MASSAGE AND DEEP TISSUE BODYWORK

We all experience stress, tension, fatigue, pain, and stiffness.
In this busy world we live in it’s inevitable!

Do you feel like you cannot get your body to do what you want it to do? Is your pain holding you back? Do you want to keep doing the things you love? Massage therapy and deep tissue bodywork may be the answer to your problems!

I have been doing bodywork for 25 years now and still love it.

In fact, deep tissue bodywork is one of my favorite things to do. I do several types of bodywork including deep tissue, biosync, therapeutic massage, lymph drainage, injury massage, sports massage, pregnancy massage, you name it! I really enjoy working with clients and helping them to feel better, move better, feel more flexible, and have more energy to do the things they love.

Twenty-five years of practicing bodywork have given me many experiences with visual evaluation of the body and with proper touch or palpation. There is no “recipe” for this work, getting a “feel” of tissue must be developed for a bodyworker to be effective. The ultimate goals I have are tissue length and elasticity, freedom of movement, and an overall increase in body awareness. A more experienced bodyworker knows how to work with tissue in order to get it to move, never going too deep too fast, and always working with different layers as a person is ready.

WHAT IS DEEP TISSUE BODYWORK?

Deep Tissue Bodywork is an advanced massage technique to address more specific issues, targeting areas of tension, tightness, or restriction by working with the muscles and connective tissue or fascia. It is not just a Swedish massage with deeper strokes or harder pressure. The goal is to work deeper layers of fascia that surround your muscles, create more length and elasticity, and break up adhesions (these are the “knots” you feel that cause pain and stiffness). These adhesions can restrict blood flow and create pain and inflammation.

Deep Tissue Bodywork is frequently used by athletes to treat sports injuries and speed recovery. It can help with muscle soreness, and muscle fatigue and help prevent injury

Bodywork has been around for thousands of years and is still widely used to treat chronic aches and pains, and as a tool for relaxation and stress relief, but there are so many more reasons to book yourself a bodywork treatment.

BENEFITS OF BODYWORK

  • Stress Relief

  • Pain reduction

  • May lower blood pressure & heart rate

  • Breaks up scar tissue

  • Increases range of motion

  • Moves toxins

  • Increases energy

  • Improves mood

  • Reduces tension

  • Improves sleep

  • Speeds injury recovery

  • Increased circulation

When the body gets moving freely again, energy increases, and the force of gravity can flow through, then the body can heal itself.

DEEP TISSUE BODYWORK

In response to stress, injury, and life the body’s connective tissue will twist, shorten, and harden. This causes a general shrinking of the body resulting in compression, decreased circulation, muscular imbalance, and impinged nerves, which feel like pain, stiffness, fatigue, and depression. Using both eastern and western philosophies Deep Tissue Bodywork techniques will unlock physiological memories and patterns by addressing spiraled tissue directly. By realigning, balancing, and lengthening the soft tissues we can influence these structural, postural, and emotional imbalances, improve flexibility and range of motion, decrease pain and chronic muscle tension, and release stored emotional trauma. Your body can then move towards homeostasis becoming more open, with greater freedom of movement, and an overall increase in energy.

MASSAGE THERAPY

Working to release chronic and acute muscle tension, encourage mental and physical relaxation, and encourage deeper cleansing with a variety
of pressures and depths. These Massage Therapy techniques will stimulate blood flow and increase nutrient and oxygen transfer while your body releases stored tension and lets go of the negative effects of stress. From addressing stiff, painful areas by enhancing the quality and texture of the deeper muscle and fascial layers to accelerating lymph drainage, and stretching muscle, ligaments, and tendons, your body can improve its ability to detox, increase energy and mobility, and relax the nervous system. Let yourself slow down and really relax amidst our hectic lives.

What to expect during a deep tissue bodywork session:

You may be asked to lie on your side or front on a massage table, depending on the massage area. I also use an arch which allows me to work the body in a more open position. Clothing suggested for structural and deep tissue sessions are bra/sports bra and underwear for women and briefs for men.

I may first warm up the muscles with light pressure, before massaging the targeted area with slow strokes and applying deep pressure with the hands, arms, or elbows. This works to release contracted muscles and tissues.

You may require repeat treatments every 1-2 weeks to see improvements in areas of imbalance, deep muscle tension, or injury.

You may also need to be recommended to do other techniques alongside massage and bodywork, such as yoga, stretching, and strengthening exercises.

WHAT IS FASCIA?

The connective tissue is fascia. Our connective tissue holds together all our muscles, tendons, ligaments, organs, joints, and limbs, and it gives us our shape. Our muscles give us stability and add to our shape. How our connective tissue is arranged is determined by our life events, our emotions, our character, and our nutrition.

The body is a web of fascia, and fascia is the organ of posture. Hydration for this organ is the key to movement. Our fascial web is three-dimensional, not like a flat spider web. so when we work on different tissue layers, the whole system changes.

The body holds onto traces of past events both physically and mentally. The physical stressors in our daily lives can create patterns in our bodies that are not always easy to resolve, however, I believe that deep tissue bodywork can undo these repeated patterns and through learned awareness, one can deter the pattern from taking hold again.

Emotions are stored in our connective tissue, in our fascia. When the tissue is worked and moved, the emotions get stirred and have the opportunity to be addressed and released. This is where real growth can happen. I love this part; it is one of the true benefits of bodywork.

As the body begins to open and move with greater ease so does the mind, the awareness increases, physical and emotional energy improves, and less energy is required to function.
